      Elephant Girl (A response)

      by Aloha Jacqueline

      · Aloha Jacqueline,Soul Poetry

      Feeling

      Hurting

      Being categorized

      By others

      As a "elephant girl"

Yet when I look back at

At photos I don't see the elephant girl

      I was told I was.

      So much confusion

      So much shame

      For a young woman

      A growing woman

      Leading to

      Suppressing

      Attacking

      Punishing

      Trying to control

      The feminine

      Until I could own

      The woman in me

      All the shapes

      All the sizes

      The faces

      Even the elephant

      Finding such deep wisdom

      In the realm of giants

      This path has taught me

      However painful

      To return to She
