When Darkness pulls you into its midwinter muck
your cracked heart lost and yearning
do not flee
or wrap yourself in quilts
stuffed full of comfort and evasion.
Become like the owl
after stars sparkle the night,
when it plummets into the Mystery with intention
its wings spread
its lantern eyes wide open.
It does not know what is hidden
within the evening’s blackness
but it knows that is where the nourishment lies.
Glide through the shadows cast by the moon
hunting the thick red marrow of truth—
the wisdom hidden beneath a foot of snow.
Be prepared to prey within the dead wood and debris
in order to fly.
